We met Wendy and Paddy a couple of times before their wedding day, both here at the studio in Dublin and at Balyna House, Moyvalley, to walk through the venue with them. We like to meet at venues we haven't shot at before because it gives us an opportunity as wedding photographers to see what locations we might use for photographing the Bride and Groom. we also get to see what the venue is like in terms of light - depending on the time of day and year, how a venue is affected by light can change dramatically. Of course, as soon as we arrived to walk through Balyna withWendy and Pady we realised that we'd shot there before, it was where a couple of our friends had been married years previously and we knew immediately it would be a great venue because we had a great time there with them
Wendy and Paddy are the most down to earth couple you could hope to meet, really open and good fun to be around - it's easy to see how much they enjoy each others company and how natural it is for them to make each other laugh. It was lovely to see the wedding day gifts Paddy had put together for Wendy and her reaction when she started to go through them one by one, but it's when they're together they really come alive and set each other off beautifully.
As wedding photographers we know one of the big concerns most couples have is the amount of time they'll be away from guests having their photographs taken. It really depends on what each couple wants, but we can get the wedding portrait session done in around 20-30 minutes, which isn't really very long at all; if the couple have particular shots in mind we can work with them to agree a schedule, and if there are multiple locations it will obviously take longer. At Balyna House there are lovely lawns and gardens to the rear of the house, so we were literally just a short walk from where all the guests were and could hear them chatter and laugh as we worked. Afterwards we simply moved to the front of the house to do the usually family group shots, because it looks really well in photos.
What more could you want as wedding photographers than a smashing couple to work with and a wedding venue to yourself not far from home. Days like that are the king of wedding days we look forward to.
